Try Redmi Watch 2 Lite: More than 100 sports modes for only 70 euros

Design: more of the same

The design of the Redmi Watch 2 Lite is so consistent with its predecessor that at first glance it might seem that nothing has changed, which is why you have to go to the details to observe the variations between both models. The first, and most obvious once you have the device in your hands, is the construction material, which on this occasion is plastic. In a way, this decision could pass as a regression in the quality of the device, since the Mi Watch Lite had an aluminum body, and plastic is generally perceived as an inferior product. However, with the change, a slightly more stylized device is achieved, thinner and less wide than its predecessor, as well as a very contained weight. At just 35 grams, the Redmi Watch 2 Lite is barely noticeable on the wrist.

The device has a single button on the right edge, made of metal. This button feels quality and after each press a satisfying click is received. The functions it performs are mainly turning on the screen, opening the application drawer and various other options by keeping it pressed, depending on which menu we are in. Another change in this device compared to its predecessor is on the screen, which is slightly larger.

This has been achieved by reducing the lower frame, despite the fact that it continues to have a greater thickness even with the reduction, so the design of the screen with respect to its edges is asymmetric. The strap of the Redmi Watch 2 Lite is made of a plastic with a rubbery touch, but it appears to be resistant due to its rigidity. The perceived quality is not the same as compared to other more premium cut products, such as a leather one, but we must not forget the price content of the terminal, as well as its orientation to the sports field. In this sense, a polyurethane strap is the most suitable because it is light and resistant to constant exposure to sweat. As a negative point, it should be noted that the strap has a brand-specific fixing system, so when changing them it will be necessary to go directly to the spare parts manufactured specifically for this watch.

When it comes to customization options, the Redmi Watch 2 Lite can be obtained in a different range of colors. On the one hand, the watch itself is offered in black, ivory and blue. On the other hand, the straps come in pink, olive or brown versions, so they can be mixed and matched for different looks. The watch is water resistant up to 5 ATM, or what is the same, 50 meters deep, so showering and even bathing with the position is not a problem.

Sports: Everything you can imagine and even more

This water resistance precisely allows the Redmi Watch 2 Lite to have water sports measurement modes such as swimming in a pool and water polo, these modalities are only a small part of the wide range of sports activities that the watch can quantify. The previous version of this watch only had 11 sports, while the Watch 2 Lite is capable of quantifying more than 100 sports modes of various kinds, whether they are outdoor activities, gym routines and even boxing and other contact sports.

In order to measure performance in any of these sports, it is necessary to enter the application called "Training" from the application drawer and select the one we want to perform. At that moment, a countdown begins and the watch will begin to measure, showing data on the screen such as the time we have been doing the exercise in question, as well as the heart rate and the calories consumed.

It is necessary to take into account that the information presented is merely indicative and does not have the same precision as other devices specifically focused on this task with much higher prices. During the time that we carry out the quantification of the exercise, it will not be possible to leave said screen, for which reason there is no access to any of the other applications of the clock. Only one menu is accessible to control the music that is being played on the mobile terminal to which the watch is linked.

It is important to mention that the watch has integrated GPS to be able to check the routes made in certain sports modes, such as running or walking, later in the application.

Performance: The main drawback

The main negative point of this smart watch, or square-shaped quantifying bracelet, is its performance. Navigation through the operating system of the Redmi Watch 2 Lite cannot be considered a smooth experience and the slowness of the animations is noticeable on more occasions than might be expected. This is especially noticeable when switching between different menus using the scroll-based navigation system.

The application that accompanies the terminal, Xiaomi Wear, has a simple and functional design, which allows us to consult at a glance all the health metrics collected by the Redmi Watch 2 Lite throughout the day. The most relevant are the heart rate as well as the level of oxygen in the blood, without forgetting sleep control. The latter has an advanced monitoring mode that uses the first two indicators to make more accurate readings and include the REM phase in the displayed data. On certain occasions the watch suffers instant disconnections from the mobile, which must be fixed by entering the application and manually reconnecting the device.

Should I buy it?

In summary, it is a smart watch with modest specifications, which plays more in the field of quantifying bracelets, but has a square shape and a larger screen. Its main attraction is its price, only 70 euros. However, a regular performance and the existence of an infinity of options in the market with similar prices and characteristics do not make it the safe recommendation that the Mi Band 6 is, from the same company, and cheaper.
